DIY Nautical Mantel

If you are like me, then you like to change out your decorations each month. The month of June I like to find nautical ideas for my home.

Even though A Lake is near where we live it is difficult to find things that are affordable or reasonable to make, so I’m always looking for some good ideas to make decorations. If you live by the ocean you probably have plenty of free shells, drift wood, Nautical items.

Here is where I’ve found some of these ideas to help decorate my home. misskopykat And lifebuoywreath

I found the welcome sign at Jo Ann’s and the other things are from dollar stores, craft stores, etc.

Nautical Rustic Wreath

You will need:

*Dollar store swim tube/noodle

*Packing Tape to tape tube together

*1 roll of Cream Burlap Wired Ribbon – 7 yards (You don’t need to have the wired kind.) I got this from Wal mart.

*Natural polished Hemp around 3 feet or other rope you have on hand

*Cheese Cloth White or tea dyed (4 strips to wrap around wreath tube/noodle.)

*2-3 pins to pin burlap to wreath

Begin by taping swim tube/noodle in a circle shape. Then start wrapping the burlap around the wreath tube and pin at the end on the backside of wreath.

Make a circle with the piece of Rope/Hemp, a little larger than the size of the tube and tie ends of Rope /Hemp together. Wrap the cheese cloth strips around the tube in four places. (See the pictures.) I tied my strips in the back with a knot.

Tie a piece of jute at the top in a loop if you wish to hang-up wreath on door, etc.

Decorate with any Nautical decor.

As you can see I didn’t finish off the tops of the Faux Wood Bundles, but you can cover them too.
