Nautical Message in a Bottle

20130607-230327.jpg

Father’s Day being Sunday we are having a Nautical Father’s Day Dinner but you could use them at any nautical/beach party.

What I’m planning to do with these message in the bottles is to have a question in them (written on brown paper) that each child/person can ask their Dad a question on anything they would like, so they can learn more about their Dad.

You ask your children/guests what they would like to learn about their dad or his growing up years or just make up questions and write them on the paper and put them in the bottles and then at your dinner have each child/person ask their Dad the questions.

Making Bottles:

These bottles I bought at Michaels. You can find jute in craft stores along with the shells. I’m sure you could find similar bottles and shells other places.

You could use hot glue and attach the jute to the bottles. I just wrapped the jute around the
bottles and tied at the tops with a knot. Add any nautical items, stars for starfish, shells or any embellishments you would like to add.

Inside bottles I used:

*Cookie Fish: I was hoping the fish would of fit in the smaller bottles too, but they only fit the large bottle.

*Sugar Sand: I used the white sugar for the sand (or you could use raw sugar) for more a brown look for the sand.

*Cookie Shells: I used round cookie ball candy for the Shells and I had to cut them in half to fit into the bottles. I wanted the decor in the bottles to be edible.

*The funnel is used to put the sugar in the bottles.

I bought the cookie balls and cookie fish at the dollar store.

Bunting/Banner in Blue

20130607-224355.jpg

When I saw a cute banner on a table, I knew I wanted to make one for a Nautical Dinner that I was planning for a Father’s Day. My inspiration came from the sites listed at the bottom.

20130607-225138.jpg

These are the colors I chose to use. I gathered up material from Wal mart and Jo Ann’s Fabric. They are made of Cotton Fabrics/Quilting fabrics. You could also use fabrics from older projects you have made.

Cut 2 out of each color for each banner flag/Pennant, with wrong sides together sew two sides leaving one side open to turn and then iron and attach them to Bias Tape.

I pinned each sewn banner piece to inside of bias tape and sew across top to catch each banner piece leaving the ends open so you can sew the jute pieces at the end. (See pictures)

If you wish you can fill two glass containers with sand and two dowels 1/2 x 36 inches and stick them in the sand (You could stain or paint the dowels). Then tie your banner to the top of each dowel. (See Pictures)
